The students of Braj Gopika Vidyamandal performed Govardhan parikram last Saturday.

Around 33 students from Nandgaon Gurukula along with their teachers, headed by school principal, Her Grace Kalavati Sakhi Devi Dasi mataji parcipated in the circumambulation of the sacred Govardhan hill last 9th of February. The group started walking barefoot around 8:30 in the morning. The temperature was low but the spirit and energy of the Gurukula girls were high and soaring. The students walked calmly and solemnly chanting on their beads. Sometimes they will sing, laugh and most of the time they will concentrate and deeply absorbed in the holy name. They visited different places along the way and remembered the pastimes of Radha and Krishna in Radhakund, Shyamakund, Kusum Sarovar, Manasi Ganga, Haridev Mandir and Govinda Kund. The arduous walk was completed around 3:30 in the afternoon. The girls covered all the 21 kilometer circumnavigation of Govardhan hill.

Performing parikrama of the sacred Govardhan hill is the most auspicious because it is an offering of worship to Radha and Krishna. It is mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatam how Sri Krishna ordered the Brajvasis to worship Govardhan Hill and the important part of that worship was that all the cowherd boys and cowherd girls circumambulated the Govardhan Hill, and in this way they could greatly please Sri Krishna.

Giri Govardhan ki jai!
